Liberty Week Lecture

On Thursday, June 29th, the Aiken County Historical Museum will present a “Liberty Week” lecture at 4:00 p.m.
This lecture is free and is presented by the South Carolina Historical Society in conjunction with its 2nd annual celebration of Liberty Week. This is a statewide series of events that examines South Carolina’s role in the American Revolution.
Description of Lecture:
In June 1776, Patriots defending Charleston defeated simultaneous land and sea attacks by a massive British force in the Battle of Sullivan’s Island. This stunning victory against overwhelming odds kept South Carolina free, changed the course of the American Revolution, and vividly revealed the upstart Americans’ devotion to the cause of liberty.
The speaker will be Doug MacIntyre and he will use primary sources including maps and documents from the collection of the SC Historical Society to explain the battle and its place the history of South Carolina and the United States of America.
